Managing the Setup Assistant experience
Using Setup Assistant—part of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS—you activate each new or erased device, configure basic settings, and personalize preferences such as language, location services, Siri, and Find My. Setup Assistant also lets users create a personal Apple ID, if they don’t have one already. Depending on your deployment model, you can have users set up their devices or you can do it.
If your organization is using either Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager to enroll devices, and a mobile device management (MDM) solution to manage them, then you set up all devices. In this case:
A device can be kept in Setup Assistant while it’s configured by your MDM solution, before the user starts interacting with it.
Setup Assistant screens can be skipped so that a user can’t interact with them. When a screen is skipped, the default setting for that feature is used.
Important: Unless you also permanently restrict these features using your MDM solution, users can set up any of them after the Apple device is set up.
