iMac (24-inch, 2023, Four ports) Battery Board

Before You Begin

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Support wedge kit (076-00507)

  • Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm) (923-08085)

  • Torx plus 3IP half-moon bit (923-08468)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

  1. Position the housing with the logic board facing up.

  2. Position the flat end of the black stick underneath the battery board cable and close to the connector. Then lift the end of the battery board cable off the connector.

  3. Use the flat end of the black stick to release the left side of the battery adhesive tab as shown.

  4. Use ESD-safe tweezers to grasp the raised portion of the battery adhesive tab and gently peel it from the battery board.

  5. Grab the adhesive tab and gently pull it to the right as shown.

    • Important: Don’t pull the adhesive tab against the housing.

  6. Continue to gently pull the adhesive as shown.

  7. Hold the battery board in place as it releases from the housing. Then remove the battery board from the housing.

    •  Caution: If the adhesive strip breaks, use ESD-safe tweezers to try to retrieve it. If the adhesive strip can't be retrieved, you will need to replace the housing.

  8. Use the teal torque driver and 3IP half-moon bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-09787) from the battery cover. Then remove the battery cover.

  9. Remove the battery from the battery board.

Reassembly

 Warning: Install only a CR2016 battery. There is a risk of explosion if the battery is installed incorrectly or replaced with an incorrect type of battery. Dispose of used batteries according to local environmental laws and guidelines.

  1. Position the battery in the battery board with the positive (+) side up.

  2. Position the battery cover over the battery.

  3. Use the teal torque driver and 3IP half-moon bit to install the two 3IP screws (923-09787) into the battery cover.

  4. Peel the blue release liner from the back of the battery board to expose the battery board adhesive.

  5. Position the battery board in the housing as shown.

  6. Press and hold for 15 seconds to adhere the battery board to the housing.

    •  Caution: Don't press the battery compartments.

  7. Press the end of the battery board cable to the connector.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
