Get information about a device
In Apple Business Essentials, sign in with a user who has the role of Administrator or Device Enrollment Manager.
Select Devices
in the sidebar, then select or search for a device in the search field. See How to search.
To search for specific devices, you can paste up to 1024 serial numbers from a text file, with each serial number separated by a comma.
Select the device from the list, then view the device details, which vary depending on who owns the device.
Organization-owned device details
When an organization registers a device but hasn’t added it to Apple Business Essentials, the device list shows the device management service that it enrolls in, along with the following:
The device model and serial number
The order source, order number, part number, and total storage size
The date the device was added to Apple Business Essentials.
See Assign, reassign, or unassign devices.
These devices can also be released from the organization. See Release devices.
Organization-owned details for enrolled devices
If the device is added to Apple Business Essentials, the device list also shows the user that signed in to the device with their Managed Apple Account. The device overview also includes:
Assignment: Displays the enrolled user
Plan: The plan the device was enrolled with
Enrollment Method: See Enrollment methods
Last seen: When the device last successfully communicated with Apple Business Essentials
Device storage: The amount of space used and available for storage on the device
Apps and settings: The apps and settings that are assigned to the device
Firewall: Whether the Firewall has been turned on for the device
FileVault: Whether FileVault has been turned on for the device
Note: Organization owned devices can use any type of enrollment, including User Enrollment, which results in a organization-owned device record showing the serial number with limited management options.
Employee-owned details for enrolled devices
Personal devices added to Apple Business Essentials show similar information to an organization-owned device, but they exclude the device’s serial number and they limit commands to maintain the privacy of your employees’ devices.
