MacBook Neo USB-C Boards
Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Remove the following part before you begin:
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
Nylon probe (black stick) (optional)
Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)
Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit
Torx Plus 5IP 50 mm bit
USB-C charge cable
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-14183) from the USB-C boards connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

Use the black stick to lift the end of the USB-C boards flex cable off the connector.

Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to remove the four 5IP screws (923-14179) from the USB-C boards.

Lift the USB-C boards out of the top case.

Reassembly
Position the USB-C boards in the top case.

Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to partially reinstall the four 5IP screws (923-14179) into the USB-C boards.


Plug both ends of the USB-C charge cable into the USB-C ports to ensure USB-C boards alignment. Adjust the alignment of the USB-C boards until the ends of the cable are easy to insert and remove.

Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to fully reinstall the four 5IP screws into the USB-C boards.

Remove both ends of the USB-C charge cable from the USB-C ports.

Press the end of the USB-C boards flex cable to the connector.

Position the USB-C boards connector cowling over the end of the USB-C boards flex cable.
Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-14183) into the USB-C boards connector cowling.
Caution: Ensure that you install the cowling in the proper orientation. The side with the black foam should be faceup as shown.
