iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) USB-C Connector

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  • Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes

  • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (black, 0.35 kgf cm)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove three crosshead screws from the USB-C connector. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Wi-Fi models only: Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove one crosshead screw from the antenna coaxial cable.

  2. Lift the end of the Smart Connector flex cable off the connector on the USB-C connector flex cable. Then lift the end of the USB-C connector flex cable off the connector.

  3. Peel the USB-C connector cable off the enclosure.

    • Wi-Fi models only: Gently lift the antenna coaxial cable. Peel the USB-C connector flex cable off the enclosure. Then slide the USB-C connector out from under the cables.

Reassembly

  1. Use ethanol wipes or IPA wipes to clean all residual adhesive from the enclosure.

    • Important: Don't clean the antenna coaxial cable.

  2. Install the USB-C connector port gasket into the channel in the enclosure. Remove the liner from the gasket.

  3. Wi-Fi models only: Route the USB-C connector flex cable under the antenna coaxial cable.

  4. Use the black torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws into the USB-C connector and one new crosshead screw into the flex cable as shown:

    • Space gray:

      • USB-C connector screws (452-02932)

      • Flex cable screw (452-02920)

    • Silver:

      • USB-C connector screws (452-06436)

      • Flex cable screw (452-06325)

    • Wi-Fi models only: Use the black torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw into the antenna coaxial cable.

  5. Press the end of the USB-C connector flex cable to the connector. Press the end of the Smart Connector flex cable to the connector on the USB-C connector flex cable.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
