Play and control music together with SharePlay and Apple Music

If one person has an Apple Music subscription, everyone can use the Apple Music app on their iPhone to play and control music on HomePod, Apple TV, Bluetooth speakers, or in the car. Learn what you need, and how to start and join a SharePlay music session.

What you need to start or join a SharePlay music session

To start a SharePlay music session, you need:

  • A subscription to Apple Music

  • An iPhone updated to the latest version of iOS

  • Bluetooth turned on for your iPhone

To join a SharePlay music session, you need:

  • An iPhone updated to the latest version of iOS

  • Bluetooth turned on for your iPhone

How to start a SharePlay music session

  1. Connect your iPhone to a HomePod, Apple TV, CarPlay, or Bluetooth speaker.

  2. Open the Apple Music app on your iPhone or in CarPlay.

  3. Go to Now Playing:

    • On your iPhone, tap the player at the bottom of your screen.

    • In CarPlay, Tap Now Playing.

  4. Tap SharePlay.

  5. Have others use their iPhone to scan the QR code on your screen.

  6. Tap Approve to allow someone to join your SharePlay session.

How to join a SharePlay music session

  1. Use your iPhone to scan the QR code in the Apple Music app on the host's device.

  2. Tap Connect.

  3. Wait for the host to approve.

  4. Use the Apple Music app on your iPhone to play and control music.

How to stop or leave a SharePlay music session

  1. Open the Apple Music app.

  2. Tap the player at the bottom of your screen.

  3. Tap SharePlay. From here, you can:

    • Leave a SharePlay music session.

    • End a SharePlay music session for all participants.
