Mac Pro (Rack, 2023) Front Plate

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3-1.2 Nm)

  • Adjustable torque driver (10-34 Ncm)

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx Plus 5IP 50 mm bit

  • Torx Plus 8IP 89 mm bit

Removal

  1. Remove the protective cover from the bottom of the front input/output (I/O) board.

  2. Lift the end of the housing sensor flex cable off the connector on the front I/O board.

  3. Turn over the computer. Then gently peel the tape on the antenna coaxial cables and power button flex cable off the housing.

  4. Use the 10-34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to remove the two 5IP screws (923-03412) from the front I/O board connector cowling on the logic board side. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

  5. Lift the two ends of the front I/O board flex cable off the connectors on the logic board.

  6. Use the black stick to loosen the adhesive between the front I/O board flex cable and the logic board.

  7. Use the 0.3-1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to remove the six 8IP screws (923-03881) (1) (923-03442) (2), three from each side of the housing.

  8. Pull the front plate away from the housing to remove it.

If you’re installing a replacement front plate, remove the following parts and save them for reassembly:

Reassembly

Important

If you’re installing a replacement front plate, install the following parts onto the new front plate:

  1. Align the slots on the front plate with the front edges of the housing. Then push the front plate firmly onto the housing.

  2. Use the 0.3-1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to partially reinstall the six 8IP screws (923-03881) (1) (923-03442) (2), three into each side of the housing.

  3. Position the top cover on the housing as shown. Align the edge of the top cover with the slot in the front plate.

  4. Ensure that the long edges of the top cover align with the slots in the housing.

  5. Firmly press the top cover near the release latches until they click into place.

  6. Set the torque value of the 0.3-1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 1 Nm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to fully reinstall the six 8IP screws, three into each side of the housing.

    • Note: The image shows the top cover removed, but the top cover should remain installed for this step.

  7. Slide the release latches on the sides of the top cover to the unlocked position. Then tilt up the top cover.

  8. Pull the top cover away from the front plate and set it aside.

  9. Press the end of the housing sensor flex cable to the connector on the front I/O board.

    • Important: Ensure that the housing sensor flex cable is positioned under the antenna coaxial cables as shown.

  10. Press the protective cover onto the bottom of the front I/O board.

  11. Turn over the computer.

  12. Press the two ends of the front I/O board flex cables to the connectors on the logic board. Then press the flex cable to adhere it to the logic board as shown.

  13. Position the front I/O board connector cowling over the two ends of the front I/O board flex cable on the logic board side.

    • Important: Ensure that the right side of the cowling is aligned with the edge of the logic board plate as shown.

  14. Set the torque value of the 10-34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to reinstall the two 5IP screws (923-03412) into the front I/O board connector cowling.

  15. Adhere the tape on the antenna coaxial cables and power button flex cable onto the housing.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
