page layout document
A page layout document is like a canvas to which you add text boxes, images and other objects, then arrange the objects on the page however you want. New pages must be added manually. Page layout documents are used primarily to create documents with a more customised design, like newsletters or posters.
To see whether a document is set up for page layout click Document in the toolbar. If there’s a Bookmarks tab at the top of the sidebar, it’s a word-processing document. If not, it’s a page layout document.
