Switch your AirPods to another device

You can switch from listening to one device with your AirPods to listening to another.

Switch automatically

These AirPods can switch automatically1 between your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro:

  • AirPods 2, 3 and 4 (both models)

  • AirPods Pro 1, 2 and 3

  • AirPods Max

To switch between devices automatically, update all of your devices to the latest versions of their operating systems and sign in to your devices with the same Apple Account using two-factor authentication.

For example, when you’re signed in with the same Apple Account on your devices, your AirPods will switch automatically from listening to music on your Mac to listening to a podcast on your iPhone. Or if you get a phone call on your iPhone that you answer on your Apple Watch, the phone call audio will be automatically routed to your AirPods.

In macOS Sequoia and later, compatible AirPods can switch automatically between your Mac and your other Apple devices. In macOS Sonoma, a notification about your AirPods will appear on your Mac — click Connect to confirm you want your AirPods to switch to your Mac.
