Pay for transit with Apple Pay if Express Transit mode isn't supported or enabled

Here's what you need to pay for transit with Apple Pay when Express Transit mode is not enabled:

Pay for transit with Apple Pay

You can pay for rides using Apple Pay on your iPhone and Apple Watch. Without Express Transit, you must authenticate each transit purchase with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

On your iPhone with Face ID

  1. At the contactless reader, double-click the side button with your iPhone on the Lock screen.*
  2. Authenticate with Face ID or your passcode.
  3. Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader.

When it's complete, you see Done and a checkmark on the display.

On your iPhone with Touch ID

  1. At the contactless reader, double-click the Home button with your iPhone on the Lock screen.*
  2. Authenticate with Touch ID or your passcode.
  3. Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader.

When it's complete, you see Done and a checkmark on the display.

On Apple Watch

  1. At the contactless reader, double-click the side button.
  2. Hold the display of your Apple Watch within an inch of the contactless reader. 
  3. Wait until you feel a gentle tap.
