Move Alchemy ratings and user tags in Logic Pro to another Mac

The Alchemy synthesiser in Logic Pro comes with over 3,000 presets that you can rate and tag with keywords. Learn how to transfer your ratings and keywords to another Mac.

Use these steps to move your Alchemy ratings and tags to another Mac. 

On the Mac that has your ratings and tags information

  1. Quit Logic if it's open.
  2. In the Finder, hold the Option key and click the Go menu.
  3. Choose Library from the Go menu.
  4. In the Library window, open the Application Support folder and then locate and open the Logic folder.
  5. Locate the Alchemy_Preset_Ratings_And_Tags.db file.
  6. Copy this file to an external drive, such as a USB flash drive. Then, eject the drive.

On your other Mac

  1. Quit Logic if it's open.
  2. In the Finder, hold the Option key and click the Go menu.
  3. Choose Library from the Go menu.
  4. In the Library window, open the Application Support folder and then locate and open the Logic folder.
  5. Connect the external drive that contains your Preset Ratings And Tags file to the Mac.
  6. Locate the Alchemy_Preset_Ratings_And_Tags.db file on your external drive.
  7. Copy this file to the Logic folder in the Application Support folder. If there are existing ratings and tags information on this Mac, you will be asked if you want to replace the existing file.

    This step overwrites the ratings and user tags on this Mac with the data from your original Mac. Make sure you have a backup of your ratings and tags data or that you don't need them before you proceed. If you're sure you want to replace the ratings and tags data on this Mac, click Replace when prompted.

  8. Open Logic and then open an instance of Alchemy.
  9. Choose Refresh Library from the File menu in Alchemy to see your ratings and tags appear.
