Use Hold Assist on iPhone

With Hold Assist, your phone notifies you when a live call is no longer on hold.

Turn on Hold Assist during an active phone call

  1. During an active phone call, tap the More buttonnull.

  2. Tap Hold Assist. Or, if your phone automatically detects that you’re placed on hold, tap to start the hold. Hold Assist Detection is turned on by default in your app settings.

  3. Make sure your phone is set to ring, then step away. When your device detects that a live agent is available, you're alerted to join the call. You also see a transcript of anything that you missed. The real-time transcription is processed entirely on device, discards when the call connects and is not stored by Apple.

  4. Tap to rejoin the call when ready. The call is not recorded.

Hold Assist is available on iPhone 12, iPhone SE (3rd generation) and later. You can also use this feature on macOS and watchOS. Hold Assist is not available in all countries or regions. See iOS and iPadOS Feature Availability.
