If Logic Pro for Mac doesn't work after an update
If Logic Pro doesn't work after updating the app or macOS, check the compatibility of any third-party software or hardware you're using.
And before your next updates, back up the Logic Pro app, check third-party compatibility, and turn off automatic updates on your Mac. If you follow these guidelines, you can avoid disruptions to your workflow caused by incompatible software.
If Logic Pro doesn't work after an update
If you're using third-party Audio Units plug-ins with Logic Pro, make sure the products are compatible with your version of macOS and Logic Pro. Contact the manufacturer for support. If an update is available, follow the manufacturer's instructions to update the plug-ins. If an update isn't available, you might need to disable or remove the plug-ins until an update is available.
If you backed up the Logic Pro app before updating the app, you can reinstall the backed-up version of the app so you can continue to work on your projects.
Before you update Logic Pro and macOS
If you're using third-party Audio Units plug-ins with Logic Pro, always do the following before updating Logic Pro and macOS:
Back up your current version of the Logic Pro app.
Check third-party Audio Units compatibility.
Turn off automatic software updates on your Mac.
Back up Logic Pro
Before you update Logic Pro on your Mac, back up the Logic Pro app. You should also periodically back up your Logic Pro project files. Having backups can help you continue working if you have an issue after an update.
With a backup of the Logic Pro app, you can reinstall the earlier version on your Mac.
With backups of your projects, you can transfer them to another Mac with an earlier version of Logic Pro so you can continue working.
Check third-party software and hardware compatibility
Take note of all the third-party Audio Units and hardware you're using with your Mac. Third-party software can include plug-ins, other audio or video apps, drivers for external hardware, utilities, security, and antivirus software.
Then, contact the developers to make sure their products are compatible with the Logic Pro and macOS updates that you want to install.
Developers can tell you if they have a software update. Follow their instructions to update their software.
If they don't have an update, follow the developers' instructions for removing incompatible software before you update Logic Pro or macOS.
Turn off automatic updates
Turn off automatic updates for Logic Pro and macOS so you can check third-party software and hardware compatibility before you update.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click General in the sidebar.
Click Software Update on the right.
Click the Info button next to Automatic Updates, turn off "Install macOS updates" and "Install application updates from the App Store," then click Done.
When you turn off automatic updates, you'll have to manually update Logic Pro and manually update macOS.
