Monitor your heart rate with AirPods Pro 3

AirPods Pro 3 feature in-ear heart rate sensors that can help you track your heart rate during workouts.

You can view your heart rate data in the Health app or during workouts in the Fitness app and supported third-party fitness apps on your iPhone.

If your AirPods Pro 3 are connected to your iPhone to monitor your heart rate during a workout, you can connect to another Apple device at the same time for audio. You can connect to an iPad with iPadOS 26 or later, a Mac with macOS Tahoe 26 or later, or an Apple TV with tvOS 26 or later, if all devices are signed into the same Apple Account.

Turn off in-ear heart rate monitoring

Heart rate monitoring is on by default. To turn it off:

  1. Put your AirPods Pro 3 in your ears and connect them to your iPhone.

  2. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone, then tap the name of your AirPods.

  3. Turn off Heart Rate.

Get accurate measurements using AirPods Pro 3

AirPods Pro 3 heart rate and motion sensor data is sent to your iPhone to calculate metrics like calories burned, steps, and distance for your daily activity. To improve its accuracy:

  • Ensure good contact between the heart rate sensor and the skin inside your ear.

  • Make sure that your ear tips have the right fit.

  • Keep your Health app data up to date. Your data from the Health app on your iPhone or iPad—such as your height, weight, gender, and age—together with heart rate and motion sensor data from AirPods Pro 3 is used to calculate how many calories you burn, and more.

  • Clean your AirPods Pro.

When you use the Fitness app or supported third-party apps, AirPods Pro 3 measure your heart rate continuously during your workout. To stop heart rate monitoring in the app, end your workout.

When you wear both an Apple Watch and AirPods Pro 3 during your workout, they work together to provide you with multiple streams of heart rate data for even better coverage. The highest confidence source in the moment will automatically be used to provide heart rate data.
