About the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adaptor

Connect a Mac computer that has a Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port to an HDMI display, while also charging your Mac and connecting to a USB-A device. iPad models that have a Thunderbolt or USB-C port can also use this adaptor.

The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter connects the following devices to a display that uses an HDMI cable:

This adaptor also connects your Mac or iPad to USB-A devices, and it includes a USB-C port for charging your Mac laptop or iPad. All three ports can be used simultaneously.

Use the HDMI port of this adaptor with a display, TV or projector that connects using an HDMI cable. It's HDCP compliant and supports the specifications below, depending on the model of the adaptor.

Model A2119 is the newest model of this adaptor. It supports these resolutions and refresh rates when used with macOS Mojave 10.14.6 or later or iOS 12.4 or later.

3840 x 2160 at 60Hz with these devices:

3840 x 2160 at 30Hz with these devices:

Up to 1080p at 60Hz

Model A1621 supports these resolutions and refresh rates when used with macOS Sierra 10.12 or later or iOS 12 or later:

  • 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz

  • Up to 1080p at 60Hz

After connecting your display, TV or projector, video from your Mac or iPad should appear within 10 seconds.

How to identify your adapter

  • The model number is printed on the retail box and the side of the adaptor, near the ports.

  • When the adapter is connected to a Mac, you can also check the USB section of System Information. The Product Identifier for A2119 is 0x1463. For A1621, it's 0x1460.
