How to present your driver licence in person

You can add and use your driver's licence or ID in Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch in participating locations, and at select businesses, venues and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at airports in those locations.*

  1. On an iPhone using Face ID, double-click the side button. On an iPhone with Touch ID, double-click the Home button. If prompted, authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID.

  2. Tap your driver licence or ID.

  3. Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch near the identity reader.

  4. On the screen of your device, review the information that will be shared.

  5. To provide your consent:

    • On an iPhone using Face ID: Double-click the side button.

    • On an iPhone using Touch ID: Hold your finger on the Home button.

    • On an Apple Watch: Double-click the side button.

When you successfully present your licence or ID, a tick and "Done" will appear on your device.

To use your licence or ID on your Apple Watch at a TSA checkpoint, you'll need to unlock your iPhone using the associated Face ID or Touch ID each time you put on your Apple Watch. Then you can use your licence or ID without authenticating until you take the watch off again.

Depending on where you present your licence or ID, there may be additional requirements. For example, when you present your licence or ID to the TSA, their identity reader will capture your image for comparison with the image presented from your licence or ID in Apple Wallet.

Share and present your driver's licence in apps and online

You can present your licence or ID to help verify your identity information online and in participating apps and app-clips. For example, you can use your licence or ID in Apple Wallet to help verify your identity when hiring a car within select rental car apps.

  1. In an app or app clip, tap the Verify with Apple Wallet or Continue with Apple Wallet button.

  2. Review the information that will be shared and other details:

    • The information from your licence or ID that the app is requesting.

    • The information the app will store and how long the app plans to store that information.

    • The reason the app is requesting this information.

  3. To provide your consent:

    • On an iPhone with Face ID: Double-click the side button, then authenticate.

    • On an iPhone with Touch ID: Hold your finger on the Home button.

IDs in Apple Wallet take advantage of the privacy and security features already built into iPhone and Apple Watch to help protect against tampering and theft:

  • Your driver licence or ID data is encrypted.

  • Neither the issuing authority nor Apple can see when and where you use your licence or ID.

  • Biometric authentication using Face ID and Touch ID helps make sure only you can view and use your licence or ID.
