Intro to Apple device management in Fleetsmith
You can manage Apple devices with Fleetsmith.
Mac computers
You can enroll Mac computers in Fleetsmith Full Management by completing the setup process for mobile device management (MDM) within Fleetsmith. Full Management installs the Fleetsmith agent and the Fleetsmith MDM profile. With Full Management of Mac computers you can:
View hardware details and device information
Install apps and settings
Remotely lock and erase devices
Monitor device assignment and inventory
Automatically approve system extensions and privacy preferences
Note: If an MDM profile is removed from a Mac computer and only the Fleetsmith agent is present, it becomes Partially Managed and must be reenrolled.
iPhone and iPad devices
You can enroll iPhone and iPad devices in Fleetsmith in two ways:
Partial Management: iPhone and iPad devices are enrolled in Partial Management through a mail message (sent to a user) which contains an enrollment profile. With Partial Management you can:
Erase devices
View hardware details and device information
Monitor device assignment and inventory
Full Management: iPhone and iPad devices are enrolled in Full Management through Apple Configurator 2; with Full Management you can also use Managed Lost Mode.
Note: Any Partially Managed devices must be reenrolled with Fleetsmith to gain full management functionality.
To check the type of management, either check the management type or view device check-in.
Check management type
Do one of the following:
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, locate the device, then view the Type column.
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, locate the device, then click the device’s Details page.

View device check-in
Managed devices that are awake and connected to the internet check in with Fleetsmith about every 5 minutes. They do this either to receive apps and settings that have been configured or to update those apps and settings.
If a device hasn’t checked in for more than 21 days, make sure it’s powered on and connected to the internet.
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, then view the Check-In column.
