Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books from the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, and App Store

You can redownload your purchased songs, albums, movies, TV shows, apps, books, or audiobooks.

Before you can redownload items that you bought from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store:

If you have questions about billing and subscriptions, get help. You can also view your purchase history1 to learn more about past purchases.

1 If you previously changed the country or region of your Apple ID, you might not see all of your past purchases.

Redownload apps

You can redownload apps on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple TV. You can also redownload some in-app purchases.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the App Store app, then tap Today at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap circle with blue man on white background or your photo in the upper-right hand corner, then tap Purchased.
  3. Tap "Not on this [device]."
  4. Find the app that you want to download, then tap blue cloud with arrow pointing down . The app downloads to your device.

On a Mac

  1. Open the App Store on your Mac.
  2. At the top of the window, click Purchased.
  3. Find the app you want to download, then click Install or Download to the right of the app. The app downloads to your computer.

To reinstall Safari, Mail, the App Store, or other apps that are included with the Mac operating system, reinstall macOS. macOS Sierra or later doesn't appear in the Purchased tab. Instead, use the Search field in the upper-right corner to find and open the App Store page for the current version of macOS.

To reinstall an app that is already installed, move the app to the Trash first. If the Purchased tab still shows an Open button instead of a Download or Install button, choose Store > Reload Page from the menu bar.

To install updates for apps that are already installed, use the Updates tab instead. Learn more about updating the software on your Mac.

On an Apple TV

  1. From the Home screen, choose App Store.
  2. Choose Purchased.
  3. Find and select the app that you want to redownload2.
  4. Select install icon . The app downloads to your device.

2 You can't redownload apps on an Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier).

Redownload movies, TV shows, or music

You can redownload movies, TV shows, and music on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the iTunes Store app.
  2. On your iPhone or iPod, tap More > Purchased at the bottom of the screen. On an iPad, just tap Purchased.
  3. Depending on what you want to redownload, tap Music, Movies, or TV Shows, then tap "Not on This [device]."
  4. Find the movie, TV show, or music that you want to redownload, then tap it. 
  5. Tap download icon to the right of the title. The movie, TV show, or music downloads to your device. You can find movies and TV shows that you redownload in the TV app3 or Videos app, and music in the Music app.

On a Mac or PC

  1. Open iTunes. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen or at the top of the iTunes window, choose Account > Purchased.
  3. Depending on what you want to redownload, click Movies, TV Shows, or Music in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window.
  4. Find the movie, TV show, or music that you want to redownload, then click download icon in the upper-right corner. The movie, TV show, or music downloads to your iTunes library.

On an Apple TV

When you watch a movie or TV show or when you listen to music on an Apple TV, you don't download it to the device. Find previously purchased movies and TV shows in the TV app3, iTunes Movies app, or TV Shows app and music in the Music app. 

3 The TV app is only available in certain countries and regions. See if the TV app is available in your country or region.

Redownload books or audiobooks

You can redownload books in iBooks on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. You can redownload audiobooks in iBooks on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch; or in iTunes on a Mac or PC.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the iBooks app.
  2. Tap Purchased at the bottom of the screen, then tap Books or Audiobooks, depending on what you want to redownload.
  3. Tap "Not on This [device]."
  4. Find the book or audiobook that you want to download, then tap download icon . The item downloads to your device.

On a Mac

You can redownload books in iBooks on a Mac. To redownload audiobooks, follow the same iTunes steps as if you were redownloading movies, TV shows, or music on a Mac or PC.

  1. Open iBooks. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Click iBooks Store.
  3. Under Quick Links on the right side of the iBooks Store window, click Purchased.
  4. Click "Not in My Library" to view purchased content that isn't on your computer.
  5. Find the book that you want to download, then click download icon in the upper-right corner. The book downloads to your iBooks library.

  • If you see a message that says, "This device is associated with another Apple ID. You cannot associate this device with another Apple ID for [number] days," you might need to wait to download your purchases. Learn more about associated devices.
