MacBook Neo Bottom Case
Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Tools
Battery cover
Cut-resistant gloves
Nylon probe (black stick)
Pentalobe screwdriver
Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)
Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Place the computer on a clean, flat surface with the bottom faceup and the display hinge facing away from you.
Use the pentalobe screwdriver to remove six pentalobe screws (923-14187) as shown.

Use the pentalobe screwdriver to remove two pentalobe screws (923-14188) from the bottom case as shown.

Put on the cut-resistant gloves.
Note the location of the two internal clips that attach the bottom case to the top case.

Grasp the bottom left corner of the bottom case. Then slightly lift the top left corner of the bottom case to release the left clip.

Grasp the bottom right corner of the bottom case. Then slightly lift the top right corner of the bottom case to release the right clip.

Remove the bottom case. Place the bottom case faceup on a clean, flat surface. Then remove the gloves.
Important
If you’re replacing the bottom case, keep the existing bottom case until the repair is complete. Use a permanent marker to write the computer serial number on the inside of the replacement bottom case.
Note: If you're replacing only the bottom case and no other parts, skip to reassembly step 5.
Place the battery cover on the battery by attaching the magnetic clips to the mushroom set screws.

Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-14183) from the battery connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the end of the battery flex cable off the connector.
Caution: Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery flex cable for the logic board to discharge.

Reassembly
Press the end of the battery flex cable to the connector.

Position the battery connector cowling over the end of the battery flex cable. Then use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-14183) into the cowling.


Remove the battery cover.

Position the bottom case over the top case, ensuring that the notch on the bottom case is on the antenna side as shown.

Press the bottom case onto the top case as shown to engage the two internal clips.

Use the pentalobe screwdriver to partially reinstall six pentalobe screws (923-14187) into the bottom case as shown.


Use the pentalobe screwdriver to partially reinstall two pentalobe screws (923-14188) into the bottom case as shown.


Use the pentalobe screwdriver to fully reinstall the eight pentalobe screws in the order shown.

Caution
After you’ve completed all reassembly steps, depending on the part replaced, Repair Assistant may be available on the device and is recommended to finish the repair. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.
If you replaced the logic board, the computer will start up in diagnostics mode until you complete Repair Assistant.
If you replaced the Touch ID board, it will function only as a power button until you complete Repair Assistant.
