Mac mini (2024) Audio Board and Status Indicator Light
Before You Begin
Remove the following parts before you begin:
SSD module (Mac mini (2024 with M4) only)
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)
EarPods with 3.5 mm headphone plug
ESD-safe tweezers
Nylon probe (black stick)
Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm)
Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit
Torx Plus 8IP 89 mm bit
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Removal
Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-11048) from the audio board connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.
Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to remove the 8IP standoff screw (923-11040) from the logic board.
Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the end of the audio board flex cable off the connector on the logic board.
Caution: Don’t touch any of the small parts on the logic board.
Stand the computer on its front with the back ports facing up as shown.
Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-11044) from the audio board.
Lay the computer on a clean, flat surface as shown.
Gently slide the flat end of the black stick between the housing and the status indicator light (SIL) to separate the SIL from the housing.
Gently pull the audio board to separate the adhesive between the SIL cable and the housing. Then remove the audio board and SIL from the housing.
Note: Use the flat end of the black stick to remove any residual adhesive from the housing.
Reassembly
Lower the audio board and SIL into the housing and position the audio board so the headphone jack is aligned with the opening in the housing.
Stand the computer on its front with the back ports facing up as shown.
Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to partially reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-11044) into the audio board.
Lay the computer on a clean, flat surface as shown. Then plug the EarPods into the 3.5 mm headphone jack to ensure audio board alignment. Adjust the alignment of the audio board until the plug is easy to insert and remove.
Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to fully reinstall the two 3IP screws into the audio board.
Align the two holes in the SIL with the two pins in the housing as shown.
Note: If installing a replacement audio board and SIL, peel the adhesive backing from the SIL before aligning the holes in the SIL with the pins in the housing.
Place the flat end of the black stick over the SIL and press and hold the SIL in place for 15 seconds to activate the adhesive between the SIL and the housing.
Use the flat end of the black stick to press and hold the SIL cable in place for 15 seconds to activate the adhesive between the SIL cable and the housing.
Gently press the end of the audio board flex cable to the connector on the logic board.
Set the torque value on the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 0.65 Nm.
Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to reinstall the 8IP standoff screw (923-11040) into the logic board.
Position the audio board connector cowling over the end of the audio board flex cable.
Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-11048) into the audio board connector cowling.
Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
