If Repair Assistant shows that a part is locked to someone else’s Apple Account
When Repair Assistant detects that a previously used part is protected by Activation Lock, it shows that the part is locked to someone else’s Apple account. Use these steps to unlock the part.
How to unlock the part
When a previously used part, such as a battery, built-in display, TrueDepth camera, or Touch ID sensor is protected by Activation Lock, it's linked to someone else's Apple Account. Before that part can be configured for use in another compatible Apple product, it must be unlocked with Repair Assistant or by removing Activation Lock. To do that, you will need to sign in with the Apple Account linked to the part.
Unlock the part with Repair Assistant
When Repair Assistant asks you to unlock the part with an Apple Account, enter the email address (or phone number) and password of the Apple Account that was used to set up the last product that contained the part. You might then need to wait a few minutes for the process to complete.
Unlock the part by removing Activation Lock
Instead of using Repair Assistant to unlock the part, you can remove Activation Lock using Find My.
Go to iCloud.com/find and sign in with the Apple Account linked to the previously used part.
Select the Apple device that contained the part.
Select the Remove option. This option might not be available if the device is online.
If the website shows that the device is lost, turn off Lost Mode.
You might need to wait a few minutes for Activation Lock to be removed. You can then return to Repair Assistant to finish the repair.
If you can’t unlock the part
Apple can't help remove Activation Lock for previously used parts. If you can’t unlock the part because you don’t have the necessary Apple Account information:
If it’s your own Apple Account, learn what to do if you forgot your Apple Account information.
If it’s someone else’s Apple Account, contact the owner or part seller and ask them to use the device that originally contained the part to remove Activation Lock and turn off Lost Mode for that device.
You can use a part that is locked, but because it isn't configured, it might not perform as expected or have features that are critical to privacy, security, or safety. In Parts & Service on the device, the part will continue to show a Finish Repair label.
