Present your driver's license from Apple Wallet

Use your iPhone or Apple Watch to present your eligible license or ID at select TSA checkpoints, businesses, and venues. You can also share your identity information in participating apps and websites.

To use your iPhone or Apple Watch to present your driver's license, you need:

  • An iPhone 8 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 4 or later, with the latest compatible version of iOS or watchOS.*

  • Face ID or Touch ID and Bluetooth turned on.

  • To be signed in to your device with your Apple Account.

If you use an accessibility feature, instead of having Face ID or Touch ID turned on, you can use your passcode to set up and then use your license or ID. Accessibility features include Voice Control, Switch Control, or AssistiveTouch.

Present your driver's license in person

You can use your driver's license or ID in Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch in participating locations, and at select businesses, venues, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at airports in those locations.*

You can also choose what type of information from your ID is shared by default. You can change these settings any time you present your ID.

  1. On an iPhone using Face ID, double-click the side button. On an iPhone with Touch ID, double-click the Home button. If prompted, authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID. On an Apple Watch, double-click the side button.

  2. Tap your driver's license or ID.

  3. If you want to change what information is presented by default, tap the Present menu and make a selection.

  4. Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch near the identity reader.

    • If you selected All ID Information, then any requested information will be sent to the contactless reader and no additional consent is needed

    • If you selected Age & ID Photo and more information is needed at the reader, then the additional information being requested will appear on screen.

    • If you selected With Review, you'll see all of the information being requested on screen.

  5. If needed, review the information that will be shared.

  6. If prompted, provide your consent:

    • On an iPhone using Face ID: Double-click the side button.

    • On an iPhone using Touch ID: Hold your finger on the Home button.

    • On an Apple Watch: Double-click the side button.

  7. When you successfully present your ID, a checkmark and Done appear on your device.

  8. If your settings didn't require a review step, you'll see a notification showing the information that was presented. Tap the notification to see the details, or view them in your Driver's License or ID transaction history.

Present your driver's license from your Apple Watch

To use your license or ID on your Apple Watch, you need to unlock your iPhone using the associated Face ID or Touch ID each time that you put on your Apple Watch. Then, you can use your license or ID without authenticating until you take the watch off again.

Share and present your driver's license in apps and online

You can present your license or ID to help verify your identity information online and in participating apps and app-clips. For example, you can use your license or ID in Apple Wallet to help verify your identity when renting a car within select rental car apps.

Share your driver's license in an app with your iPhone

  1. In an app or app-clip, tap the Verify with Apple Wallet or Continue with Apple Wallet button.

  2. Review the information that will be shared and other details:

    • The information from your license or ID that the app is requesting.

    • The information that the app will store, and how long the app plans to store that information.

    • The reason that the app is requesting this information.

  3. To provide your consent:

    • On an iPhone with Face ID: Double-click the side button, then authenticate.

    • On an iPhone with Touch ID: Hold your finger on the Home button.

Present your driver's license to a website

  1. In Safari, tap Verify Identity.

  2. The requested ID information will be displayed.

  3. To provide your consent:

    • On an iPhone with Face ID: Double-click the side button, then authenticate.

    • On an iPhone with Touch ID: Hold your finger on the Home button.

On an iPad or Mac, after you tap Verify Identity, the requested ID information will display on your nearby iPhone. Your iPhone and your Mac or iPad must be signed in to the same Apple Account.

IDs in Apple Wallet take advantage of the privacy and security features already built into iPhone and Apple Watch to help protect against tampering and theft:

  • Your driver's license and ID data are encrypted.

  • Neither the issuing authority nor Apple can see when and where you use your license or ID.

  • Biometric authentication using Face ID and Touch ID helps make sure that only you can view and use your license or ID.

* ID in Apple Wallet is available in select U.S. states and territories, and is accepted at select U.S. airports and TSA checkpoints (travelers should check if their airport accepts mobile ID before traveling and refer to airport checkpoint signage to confirm availability), as well as at select businesses and organizations in person, in app, and online. To use ID in Wallet or verify ID using an iPhone, software and device requirements apply; see here for details. ID in Wallet is not a replacement for a physical ID which may still be needed (e.g., by request of law enforcement).
