Heated Display Removal Fixture Firmware Update
This article provides instructions on how to install the latest firmware for the following heated display removal (HDO) fixtures:
Heated Display Removal Fixture 1.0, gray top
Heated Display Removal Fixture 2.0, white top
Heated Display Removal Fixture 3.0, black top
If your HDO fixture has firmware version "HDO V26.0.0" you don't need to update it.
1. Materials
Ensure that you have:
Apple Silicon Mac computer (for host Mac)
An internet connection
macOS Tahoe or later
1 GB of free space on the host Mac
Apple Service Utility installed
USB-A to USB-B cable
A USB-C to USB-A adapter can be used
2. Prepare the host Mac
Disable antivirus software.
Disable the screen saver.
Ensure that the display doesn't turn off. Do this for both power adapter mode and battery mode, if applicable.
Enable Light Mode. Dark Mode and Auto Mode aren't supported by the firmware update software.
Unplug all external displays and devices. Only the power adapter, keyboard, mouse, and heated display removal fixture may be connected during the firmware update.
Open Apple Service Utility (ASU) and select Resources from the Window menu. Install the appropriate application for the HDO fixture you need to update.
For HDO fixtures 1.0 and 2.0
Select Install to download Heated Display Removal Fixture Updater 1.0/2.0.
For HDO fixture 3.0
Select Install to download Heated Display Removal Fixture Updater 3.0 (S or C)
Important:
If you select Install and nothing happens, increase the size of the ASU Resources window and try again.
If Heated Display Removal Fixture Updater 1.0/2.0 or 3.0 does not appear in the ASU Resources list, attempt the following troubleshooting steps one at a time and in the following order:
Select Check for Updates in the ASU Resources window.
Quit ASU and try again.
Re-install ASU. Then re-install the relevant Resources and try again.
3. Install the firmware update
Important: Unplug all external displays and devices from the host Mac. The power adapter can be connected to the host Mac during the firmware update.
Turn on the HDO fixture.
Connect the USB cable to the HDO fixture and the host Mac.
For HDO fixtures 1.0 and 2.0
Open the Heated Display Removal Fixture Updater - M from the Applications folder. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
For HDO fixture 3.0
The Heated Display Removal Fixture Updater application should open automatically after you connect the HDO fixture to the host Mac. If the application does not open automatically, identify the Manufacturer on the back of the HDO fixture. Then open the corresponding application version (-C or -S) for the HDO fixture you're updating.

Important
The update will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
Don't turn off the HDO fixture or disconnect it from the host Mac while the update is in progress.
The Heated Display Removal Fixture Updater application on the host Mac may appear as not responding while the update is in progress. Wait for the countdown timer to complete.
When the HDO fixture screen shows "HDO V26.0.0," the firmware has been installed.
Disconnect the USB cable from the HDO fixture and the host Mac.
Turn off the HDO fixture. Then unplug the power cable from the HDO fixture.
Wait 20 seconds.
Plug the power cable into the HDO fixture. Then turn on the HDO fixture.
Confirm that the HDO fixture screen shows "HDO V26.0.0" in the bottom right corner.
Important
If you encounter an error on the host Mac, check the firmware version on the HDO fixture screen. If the HDO fixture shows the latest firmware version, disregard the error and complete the power cycle steps above.
