If the child is already in your family
You can ask an organizer from another family group to invite the child to their family. After they make the request, you'll get a notification. You can approve from the notification or use these steps:
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings > [your name] > Invitations.
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Family Sharing. Click the Details button next to the child's name. In macOS Mojave or earlier, choose Apple menu > System Preferences. Click iCloud, then click Manage Family.

Children under 13 can't be removed from a family group. Age varies based on your country or region.
If you want to invite the child to your family
After you send the invitation, the child's current family organizer must approve the request on their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. Then the child will move from their current family group to your family group.
Invite a child from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Go to Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing.
- Tap Add Member.
- Tap "Invite in Person."
- Follow the onscreen steps.
- After the child's current family organizer approves the request, provide parental consent and a valid payment method.*
You can check the status of the request under the child's name in Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing.
Invite a child from your Mac
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Family Sharing.
- Click Add button
.
- Click Invite People.
- Click Invite in Person.
- Enter the child's Apple ID and password.
- Follow the onscreen steps.
- After the child's current family organizer approves the request, provide parental consent and a valid payment method.*
Check the status of the request under the child's name in System Preferences > Family Sharing.
If you have macOS Catalina:
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Family Sharing.
- Click Add button
.
- Enter the child's Apple ID and password.
- Follow the onscreen steps.
- After the child's current family organizer approves the request, provide parental consent and a valid payment method.*
Check the status of the request under the child's name in System Preferences > Family Sharing.
If you have macOS Mojave or earlier:
- From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
- Click Manage Family, then click Add button
.
- Enter the child’s Apple ID and password.
- Follow the onscreen steps.
- After the child's current family organizer approves the request, provide parental consent and a valid payment method.*
Check the status of the request under the child's name in System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family.

Get more help
- If the child has an Apple Cash account, the current family organizer should close it before moving the child to a different family group.
- If a parent or guardian set up an Apple Watch for the child, the parent or guardian should remove the device. Then, the new parent or guardian can set it up in their family group.
