Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Caution
If you replace this part, it’s recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.
Remove the following part before you begin:
Tools
Antenna tool
ESD-safe tweezers
Nylon probe (black stick)
Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)
Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the 3IP screw (923-14183) from the antenna coaxial cable connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

Use the antenna tool to lift the end of one antenna coaxial cable off the connector. Repeat this step on the other antenna coaxial cable.

Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-14183) from the USB-C boards connector cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

Use the black stick to lift the end of the USB-C boards flex cable off the connector.

Use the black stick to lift the ends of the right speaker, audio board, and left speaker flex cables off the connectors.
Note: Keep the audio board flex cable adhered to the top of the battery tray.

Flip up the locking bar on the end of the display flex cable. Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector.

Flip up the locking bar on the end of the camera/ambient light sensor (ALS)/display flex cable. Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector.

Lift the camera/ALS/display flex cable from the foam channel.

If the computer includes a Touch ID board, flip up the locking lever on the Touch ID interposer flex cable connector (1). Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector (2).

Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the polyester film tape from the keyboard flex cable connector.

Use the flat end of the black stick or ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the keyboard flex cable connector. Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector.

Use the flat end of the black stick or ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the microphone flex cable connector. Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector.

Use the flat end of the black stick or ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the trackpad interposer flex cable connector on the logic board. Then slide the end of the flex cable out of the connector.

Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the five 3IP screws (923-14182) from the logic board.

Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the left side of the logic board as shown. Then remove the logic board from the top case as shown.
Caution: Clear all cables as you lift and remove the logic board to avoid damaging the cables.


Reassembly
Lower the right side of the logic board under the USB-C boards flex cable.

While using the black stick to keep all cables clear, lower the left side of the logic board into the top case and align the logic board with the screw holes in the top case.
Caution: Ensure that no flex cables or antenna coaxial cables are trapped under the logic board. The computer in the image below doesn't include a Touch ID board. If you're repairing a computer with a Touch ID board, ensure that the Touch ID interposer flex cable isn't trapped under the logic board.

Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the five 3IP screws (923-14182) into the logic board in the order shown.


Slide the ends of the keyboard, microphone, and trackpad interposer flex cables into the connectors on the logic board (1). Then flip down all three locking levers (2).

Press the polyester film tape onto the end of the keyboard flex cable.

If the computer includes a Touch ID board, slide the end of the Touch ID interposer flex cable into the connector (1). Then flip down the locking lever (2).

Slide the end of the camera/ALS/display flex cable into the connector. Then flip down the locking bar.

Press the camera/ALS/display flex cable into the foam channel.

Slide the end of the display flex cable into the connector. Then flip down the locking bar.

Press the ends of the right speaker, audio board, and left speaker flex cables to the connectors.

If the audio board flex cable is adhered to the top edge of the battery tray, skip to step 12. If the audio board flex cable isn't adhered to the top edge of the battery tray, remove the battery cover. Then press the audio board flex cable with the black stick as shown to adhere it to the battery tray. Place the battery cover on the battery by attaching the magnetic clips to the mushroom set screws.

Press the end of the USB-C boards flex cable to the connector.

Position the USB-C boards connector cowling over the end of the USB-C boards flex cable.
Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-14183) into the USB-C boards connector cowling.


Position the ends of the two antenna coaxial cables over the connectors. Use the blunt end of the antenna tool to press the ends of the antenna coaxial cables to the connectors.
Note: You may need to use the black stick or ESD-safe tweezers to align the ends of the antenna coaxial cables over the connectors.

Position the antenna coaxial cable connector cowling over the ends of the antenna coaxial cables.
Use the blue torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the 3IP screw (923-14183) into the antenna coaxial cable connector cowling.
