Data recovery and warranty implications
Learn about the warranty implications of having your Apple storage device serviced by a data-recovery company.
Products that have had data recovery performed on them by third-party companies that are recommended by Apple to provide data recovery services can be returned to Apple for service. The cost of any data recovery attempt is not covered by the Apple Limited Warranty or an AppleCare plan.
Typically, if a product is modified, it is not eligible for service. However, if a third-party company recommended by Apple modifies a product while performing data recovery, Apple will not exclude coverage on that basis.
Storage devices that are no longer functional due to an issue beyond normal usage—such as damage from an impact, being dropped, exposure to moisture or other circumstances outside of normal usage—are not eligible for warranty exchange regardless of whether data recovery is performed.
Recommended companies that provide data-recovery services:
Use of third-party companies specializing in data recovery is at the sole discretion of the customer. These companies are not Apple Authorized Service Providers, nor does Apple warrant any services performed by them.
