Lock a device remotely in Fleetsmith
If a Mac is lost, a Fully Managed Mac can be remotely locked and require a PIN.
If an iPhone or iPad is lost, a Fully Managed iPhone or iPad can be remotely locked by Enabling Lost Mode.
Important: A Mac with an Apple T2 Security Chip running macOS 10.15 or later can be locked only with the Lock Device command. If the Erase Device command is used on a Mac with an Apple T2 Security Chip running macOS 10.15 or later, no lock PIN will be issued and the device will be erased.
Remotely lock a Mac
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, then click the name of the Mac.
On the right side of the device’s Details page, click Lock Device.
Follow the prompts to lock the Mac.
The device status changes to Pending Lock on the device’s Details page.
After you issue the Lock Device command, you need a PIN to unlock it. You can retrieve the PIN in the Fleetsmith Admin Console on a device’s Overview page. See Retrieve a Mac computer’s Erase Device PIN.
Fleetsmith can remotely place a supervised iPhone or iPad in Lost Mode (called Managed Lost Mode). When Fleetsmith remotely enables Managed Lost Mode, the device is locked and a message can be displayed with a phone number and other information on the Lock Screen. Also, when a device is in Managed Lost Mode, Fleetsmith can remotely query for the device’s location.
Remotely lock an iPhone or iPad with Lost Mode
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, then click the name of the device.
On the right side of the device’s Details page, click Enable Lost Mode.
Follow the prompts to lock the device.
A new card appears on the device’s Overview page explaining that Lost Mode is enabled.
