Create a macOS account automatically with Fleetsmith
One of Fleetsmith’s most powerful features—the automatic creation of macOS accounts—is available for new Mac computers that appear in Apple School Manager and Apple Business Manager. Users must be imported in Fleetsmith before they start the macOS Setup Assistant. The macOS account that Fleetsmith automatically creates matches the assigned user’s full name and short name.
As you set up a new macOS account, keep the following in mind:
Assign specific Mac computers to specific users based on serial number. Otherwise, the Mac will have an incorrect account user name (for example, one belonging to a different user). You can check Mac specifications and serial numbers on individual device approval pages and cross-compare against Apple order information and shipping destination.
Automatic Account Creation works only on the very first setup of a device. If you want to set up a Mac account later on, even if you’ve reinstalled macOS, you must create it manually.
In order for automatic account creation to function, the new Mac must have network access during the macOS Setup Assistant process.
All accounts created with this feature will be local administrators.
Find the temporary password
To find an automatically created account’s temporary password, follow these steps:
In the Fleetsmith Admin Console, click Devices in the sidebar, then click the device’s computer name.
Click the Overview tab to find the temporary password for the account.
The temporary password should appear under the Automatic Account Creation section.
Automatic Account Creation works only when the Mac is connected to the internet and on the initial setup of a new Mac. If you want to set up a Mac account later on, even if you’ve reinstalled macOS, you must create it manually.
