Studio Display (2026) Logic Board

Before You Begin

Danger

Ensure that the AC power cord isn’t plugged into an electrical outlet.

Caution

This procedure requires System Configuration. To perform System Configuration you will need the following:

  • The latest version of Apple Service Utility installed on an Apple silicon or Intel-based Mac with the Apple T2 Security Chip running macOS Sonoma 14.1 or later

  • Internet access

  • A USB-C charge cable or a USB-A to USB-C cable. The USB-C cable must support both power and data. Don’t use Thunderbolt 3 cables.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx Plus 6IP 25 mm bit

  • Torx Plus 8IP 25 mm bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Pinch both sides on the ends of the following flex cables. Then slide the flex cables out of the connectors.

    • Dual display backlight power flex cable (2)

    • DisplayPort power flex cable

    • Left speaker flex cable

  2. Press and hold the “PUSH“ button on the zero-insertion force (ZIF) microphone flex cable connector. While pressing the button, slide the end of the ZIF microphone flex cable out of the connector.

  3. Use ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the DisplayPort signal flex cable connector.

  4. Gently peel the DisplayPort signal flex cable where shown to release the adhesive underneath it.

  5. Slide the end of the DisplayPort signal flex cable out of the connector.

  6. Use ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the camera and ambient light sensor flex cable connector. Then slide the end of the camera and ambient light sensor flex cable out of the connector.

  7. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the polyester film tab away from the power supply signal flex cable connector. Use ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the connector. Then slide the end of the power supply signal flex cable out of the connector.

  8. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the polyester film tab away from the right fan flex cable connector. Use ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the connector. Then slide the end of the right fan flex cable out of the connector.

  9. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the polyester film tab away from the left fan flex cable connector. Use ESD-safe tweezers to flip up the locking lever on the connector. Then slide the end of the left fan flex cable out of the connector.

  10. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 6IP bit to remove the four 6IP screws (923-14138) from the short bus bar. Then remove the bus bar and save it for reassembly.

  11. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to remove the five 8IP screws (923-14140) from the logic board.

  12. Use the black stick to move the cables out of the way as you lift the logic board out of the housing.

    • Caution: Keep all cables clear to avoid damaging the cables.

Reassembly

  1. Lower the logic board into the housing while using the black stick to keep all cables clear. Align the screw holes in the logic board with the screw holes in the housing.

    • Caution: Keep all cables clear to avoid damaging the cables.

  2. Set the torque value on 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 0.35 Nm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to reinstall five 8IP screws (923-14140) into the logic board.

  3. Position the short bus bar on the logic board, aligning the hooks on the bus bar with the notches on the logic board.

  4. Set the torque value on 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 0.45 Nm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 6IP bit to reinstall four 6IP screws (923-14138) into the short bus bar in the order shown.

  5. Slide the end of the left fan flex cable into the connector. Flip down the locking lever. Then press the polyester film tab onto the end of the flex cable.

  6. Slide the end of the right fan flex cable into the connector. Flip down the locking lever. Then press the polyester film tab onto the end of the flex cable.

  7. Slide the end of the power supply signal flex cable into the connector. Flip down the locking lever. Then press the polyester film tab onto the end of the flex cable.

  8. Slide the end of the camera and ambient light sensor flex cable into the connector. Then flip down the locking lever.

  9. Slide the end of the DisplayPort signal flex cable into the connector. Then flip down the locking lever.

  10. Press the DisplayPort signal flex cable where shown to adhere it to the logic board.

  11. Slide the end of the microphone flex cable into the connector.

  12. Slide the ends of the four flex cables into the connectors.

    • Dual display backlight power flex cable (2)

    • DisplayPort power flex cable

    • Left speaker flex cable

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
