Manage supported computer models in System Image Utility on Mac
By default, the images you create in the System Image Utility app on your Mac can be installed on any Mac. However, this may cause issues, as desktop and portable Mac computers contain different hardware. Use the Supported Computer Models pane to restrict which Mac computers receive a specific image. This is useful when you have multiple images from different hardware sources and want to ensure the image is applied to the correct Mac. For example, you could search for 2016 and easily see which computers Apple released in 2016. You can then search for 2017 and see all the computers Apple released in 2017. Combining the two ensures that your image is available on those computers, not older ones that also happen to be on your network.
