Confirm that you're an adult with a selfie
In some states, countries, or regions, you might be asked to confirm that you're an adult before you can take certain actions on your Apple Account. One way to confirm that you're an adult is to take a selfie. An age-estimation model will then evaluate the images of your face.
Depending on your state, country, or region, you might be asked to confirm that you're an adult when you create a new Apple Account, update the software on your device, try to change certain safety settings, or try to download or purchase apps with an age rating of 18+.

What you need

The option to confirm that you're an adult with a selfie must be available in your state, country, or region. If the option isn't available, you can confirm that you're an adult with another method.
Take a selfie to confirm that you're an adult
When you're asked to confirm that you're an adult, you might see the option to confirm with a selfie.
Choose the option to take a selfie, then tap Get Started.
Hold your device in front of you and center your face in the frame.
Capture all four angles of your face by moving your head slowly right, left, up, and down. Follow the onscreen guidance to complete confirmation. It might take a moment to estimate your age.
Once you've confirmed that you're an adult, you can take certain actions on your Apple Account (such as adjusting safety settings) and use certain services and features (such as downloading an app with an age rating of 18+). You don't have to confirm again.

Tips for taking a clear selfie
Make sure you're in a well-lit area with even lighting. Indoors works best.
Move closer to the camera so that your face is clearly visible.
Remove anything that might cover your face, such as masks, hats, or sunglasses.
Make sure only your face is in the frame.
Accessibility options
At any point while taking your selfie, you can tap Accessibility Options for spoken instructions, reduced directions, or other adjustments.
How your privacy is protected during confirmation
To confirm that you're an adult, your selfie is analyzed using age-estimation models that run both on-device and on Private Cloud Compute, which extends the security and privacy of your Apple device into the cloud. The results are combined on your device. When your selfie is analyzed on your device and on Private Cloud Compute, it isn't accessible to anyone, not even Apple. Once your age is confirmed, your selfie is deleted and isn't retained in any form.
If you can't confirm that you're an adult with a selfie
Make sure that your device is connected to the internet, then try taking another selfie.
Confirm your age using another method, such as a credit card or government-issued ID.
If you're not an adult
Depending on where you live, you might be required to connect to a Family Sharing group with an adult who has confirmed their age to take certain actions on your Apple Account — like downloading apps or changing certain safety settings. In some cases, certain actions might not be available until you turn 18.
