Maintain color and brightness uniformity on Apple displays in low ambient-lighting conditions
When using an IPS display to view a dark image in low ambient light, you might notice that some color or brightness isn't uniform when the display brightness is high.
In-plane switching (IPS) display technology is used in today's most advanced displays, including displays in the iMac, MacBook Pro with Retina display, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, as well as Apple Cinema and Thunderbolt displays. IPS technology enhances the viewing experience by providing a wider range of viewing angles with better color consistency. This provides an overall high-quality viewing experience and makes IPS displays ideal for viewing content from an angle, such as when multiple people are observing the same screen.
When using an IPS display to view a dark image in low ambient-lighting conditions, such as in a darkened room, you might notice that some color or brightness is not uniform when the display brightness is adjusted to a high setting. This is normal behavior. To minimize this effect, you can decrease the brightness of the display:
