File a claim if you have AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage

If you purchased AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss and your iPhone is missing, learn how to file a claim. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is available only for iPhone in the United States and Japan.

You can use the Find My app or icloud.com/find to mark your iPhone as lost. But don't erase the device or remove the device from your account.

How to file a claim for a lost or stolen iPhone

  1. Start your claim online with Apple. 
  2. If you're in the United States, you'll be asked to finalize your claim on Assurant’s website. If you're in Japan, you'll be asked to finalize your claim on AIG's website.
  3. If you wish, use the Find My app or icloud.com/find to mark your iPhone as lost. But don't erase the device or remove the device from your account.

If you're unable to sign in or start a claim online, contact Apple Support. Make sure that you have your Apple ID and the serial number of your lost or stolen iPhone.

If you cancel your claim

If you cancel your claim, your iPhone will be usable again, but you must set it up like a new device, including a new passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID. To get the data previously stored on your iPhone, restore your iPhone from a backup.

You can't cancel the claim if a replacement device has shipped.

How to check the status of your claim

Before you check the status of your claim, make sure that you have these things on hand:

  • Your claim number or Apple dispatch ID
  • The serial number or IMEI of your iPhone

In the United States

After you initiate your theft or loss claim with Apple, you'll be asked to finalize your claim with Assurant. If you need to check the status of your claim, contact Assurant directly. Apple can only confirm whether or not you filed a claim. Apple won't have information about the status of the claim.

In Japan, Theft & Loss service is administered by Apple's authorized service provider through AIG. After you initiate your theft or loss claim with Apple, you'll be asked to finalize your claim with AIG.

When your claim is approved

When your claim is approved, your lost or stolen iPhone will be permanently disabled and you'll receive a replacement. If you find your lost or stolen iPhone after your claim has been approved, you won't be able to use it again.

In Japan, you might need to bring your replacement iPhone to your carrier to get and register a new SIM card.

In the United States, AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is underwritten by American Security Insurance Company. In New Hampshire, the underwriter is Standard Guaranty Insurance Company and in Montana, the underwriter is American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida.
