Assign a device that was serviced or replaced in Apple Business Essentials
Service a device
If you aren’t using a plan with AppleCare+ in Business Essentials, you can still have a device serviced or replaced. You should unassign the following devices from the mobile device management (MDM) server in Apple Business Essentials before the device is subject to AppleCare service:
iPhone
iPad
Apple TV
Note: Mac computers don’t have to be unassigned.
When the device is returned, you can reassign it to the same MDM server.
Replace a device
If you replace an iPhone, iPad, or Mac currently enrolled in Apple Business Essentials through an Apple Authorized Service Provider, the replacement device is usually also available for enrollment. You can manually assign the device to a server using your order number. To find replacement devices, search for order numbers that begin with the letter R.
Important: Before you send in or bring in an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV to be repaired, unassign it from your MDM server in Apple Business Essentials. If you don’t, it might be returned to you without being repaired. If your Mac is enrolled in Apple Business Essentials, it stays enrolled when you get it repaired.
