What’s new for enterprise in iPadOS 15

Learn about the enterprise content that Apple has released for iPadOS 15.

iPadOS 15.6

  • When using a Yubikey 5Ci to copy a password string, the entire string will now be retrieved.

  • Adds support for signing in with a Managed Apple ID that is federated with Google Workspace.

  • Resolves an issue where tel:// links containing special characters would not initiate a call.

  • URL Scheme links for apps are now active in Mail, Messages, and other apps.

  • Resolves an issue where devices configured for Always On VPN are unable to load the Captive Network Assistant when joining networks.

  • Sharing notes stored in a managed account to unmanaged destinations can now be prevented by the existing Managed Open In restrictions.

  • Apps installed on devices enrolled in User Enrollment can now be updated by MDM.

  • Resolves an issue where re-installing an enrollment profile would not succeed.

  • The AirDrop restriction is now correctly applied to devices with classes configured in the Classroom app.

  • Resolves an issue where government alerts could not be disabled by the user.

  • Devices configured for Japanese hardware keyboards will no longer change keyboard mapping when device orientation is changed.

  • Resolves an issue where new text replacements could not be added on some devices.

  • Resolves an issue where users would receive multiple prompts when loading a web page that requires a certificate for authentication.

  • Resolves an issue where external keyboards could not be used to sign in to a Shared iPad device.

  • Resolves an issue that could cause calendar meeting participants to receive responses from older Exchange calendar events after a device is updated.

  • Resolves an issue that could cause Safari-initiated WebRTC-based video conferences to not have audio or video.

  • Resolves an issue that prevented a proxy that uses NTLM from authenticating.

Bug fixes and other improvements

  • When an app is configured for single app mode, the user can approve prompts for mic, camera, and other entitlements.

  • Corrected an issue in which the Erase All Contents and Settings restriction didn't prevent users from erasing devices.

iPadOS 15

iPadOS 15 includes new features like Managed Pasteboard, an improved User Enrollment experience, new declarative management capabilities, and other device management improvements.

Device Management

  • A new Managed Pasteboard restriction in iPadOS 15 ensures that pasting of content follows configured managed Open In rules.

  • User enrollment allows access to iCloud Drive for both personal and Managed Apple ID accounts in the Files app.

  • A new account-based enrollment flow allows users to initiate enrollment from their device in Settings > General > VPN & Device Management using their assigned Managed Apple ID.

  • The Extensible Single Sign-On payload can now specify preferred KDCs.

  • With tvOS 15, a new key in the TV Remote payload can be used to remove Apple TV device names in the Apple TV remote widget.

Bug fixes and other improvements

  • When composing a mail message, the "DisplayName" will now be shown for recipients found in an Exchange Global Address List.

  • Addresses an issue where per-account VPN connection was not established with Exchange accounts for all services.

  • Messages will no longer be disabled following a software update if the Messages and FaceTime screen were configured to be skipped during Automated Device Enrollment.

  • When MDM pushes a software update to a passcode protected device in a locked state, the Lock Screen will no longer show an error.

  • Devices prepared with cfgutil will now correctly exit Setup Assistant once complete.

  • Resolves an issue where Mail notifications are not displayed on the Lock Screen.

  • When devices are configured for Japanese language and Open In management restrictions are enabled, contacts will now be correctly sorted when choosing recipients in Mail

  • iPadOS 15 supports the IPv6-Only-Preferred option in DHCPv4. This option allows IPv6 capable devices to forgo the assignment of an IPv4 address.

  • The Single Sign-On extension can now use Face ID and Touch ID for authentication.

  • Kerberos SSO credentials are correctly sent to ADFS servers when authentication occurs via SafariViewController API.
