Managed Client: Users see another name when authenticating to a share point

Managed users may see another user's name in an AFP authentication dialog when accessing a share point using the Dock.

The user who authenticated to the AFP server when adding the share point in Workgroup Manager will be the name that appears on client computers. Authenticating with guest privileges will prevent a user name from appearing in the AFP authentication dialog on client systems.

Use the following steps to add a share point to the Dock without a name appearing in the authentication dialog on 10.6 systems:

  1. Mount the AFP share point, authenticating as guest.

  2. Open Workgroup Manager and select the user, group, or computer group where you are managing this setting.

  3. Click Preferences in the top toolbar.

  4. Click Dock.

  5. Under the Dock Items tab, add the share point to the "Documents and Folders" list.

  6. Click "Apply Now" to save the changes.
