If the internal speakers on your Mac aren't working
Try the steps below if you can’t hear audio from the built-in speakers on your Mac.
Check the volume of the app
Most apps that can play audio have their own volume controls. Here are some examples:
In the Music app, adjust the volume with the slider at the top of window.
In the Apple TV app, the volume slider for the show or movie that you’re currently watching appears at the top of the window.
In Safari, a webpage with audio content might be muted. To unmute the audio, click
in the search field at the top of the Safari window. In any web browser, websites with their own media players like YouTube have their own volume controls.
If you can hear any audio from any apps or websites from the built-in speakers on your Mac, then the speakers are working.
Disconnect external audio devices from your Mac
To make sure that audio isn't being sent to an external device that supports audio, disconnect any such devices:
Headphones or external speakers connected to the 3.5mm headphone jack
External audio interfaces, USB headphones, or USB speakers connected to the USB or Thunderbolt ports
External displays connected to the USB or HDMI ports
Check the sound settings on your Mac
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings (or System Preferences).
Click Sound.
Click the Output tab, then select the built-in speakers, as indicated in Type column.
At the bottom of the window, check these sound settings:
Drag the “Output volume” slider to adjust the volume.
Make sure the Mute checkbox is not selected.
Test the sound again.
Still not working?
