How to put your iPad in diagnostics mode

If you repair your iPad using Self Service Repair, you might be asked to put your iPad in diagnostics mode as part of System Configuration. Here's what to do.

  1. Turn off your iPad: Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power-off slider appears. Then drag the slider and wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.

  2. Press and hold both the volume up and volume down buttons.

  3. While holding down the volume buttons, plug the iPad into a power adapter (ideally 18W or higher) or a computer that's both turned on and connected to power.

  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the buttons.

  5. When a message appears saying "Diagnostics allow Apple to identify potential hardware and software issues with this device," tap Start Session.
