Burn a disc of your Final Cut Pro project or Compressor file

In Final Cut Pro 10.8 and Compressor 4.8 or later on Mac, you can't burn a video directly to DVD or Blu-ray disc. To burn a disc, share or transcode the video to Apple ProRes 422, then use a third-party disc burning app.

Share your Final Cut Pro project to Apple ProRes 422

  1. With your project open in Final Cut Pro, choose Export File from the Share menu.

  2. Click the Settings tab, then make sure to choose these options:

    • Choose Video and Audio from the Format pop-up menu.

    • Choose Apple ProRes 422 from the Video Codec pop-up menu.

  3. Click Next, name the file, choose a location for the exported file, then click Save.

Transcode your Compressor file to Apple ProRes 422

  1. Click the Add File button in the batch area.

  2. In the File window, select the video file you want to burn to disc, then click Add.

  3. In the Presets window, click the disclosure triangle next to ProRes, then choose Apple ProRes 422.

  4. Choose a save location, then click OK. The new job is shown in the batch area.

  5. Click the Start Batch button in the lower-right corner of the batch area, then follow the instructions to complete the transcoding process.
