Turn Attention Aware features on or off on your iPhone or iPad Pro

Learn about Attention Aware features on your iPhone X or later, or iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch, or iPad Pro 13-inch.

What are Attention Aware features?

With Attention Aware features, iPhone and iPad models with Face ID can check whether you’re paying attention to your device and automatically take action. Attention Aware features work, using the TrueDepth camera,* even if you don't enroll in Face ID. These features include:

  • Your display won't dim until you stop looking at your device.

  • When attention is detected, your iPhone will lower the volume of your alerts.

  • If you say "Hey Siri" near multiple Apple devices (like an iPhone and a HomePod), Attention Aware features ensure the correct device responds.

If you don’t want to use these features, open the Settings app, tap Face ID & Passcode, and turn off Attention Aware Features.

* The TrueDepth camera is available on iPhone X or later except for iPhone SE, and on iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd through 6th generations), and iPad Pro 13-inch.
