iMac (27-inch, Late 2012): Boot Camp alert with 3TB hard drive

Symptoms

When you start the Boot Camp Assistant on an iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) computer that has a 3TB hard drive, the following message appears.

"Boot Camp does not support installing Windows on this Mac."

Resolution

Update OS X Mountain Lion to version 10.8.3 or later to address this issue. 

  1. From the Apple () menu, choose Software Update. The Mac App Store will open. 
  2. Click Updates.
  3. Choose and install the OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 update. Alternatively, you can download and install the update manually here.
  4. Once your computer restarts, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the onscreen instructions to install Windows 8.
