Lion Server: Users cannot view podcasts if server certificate is not trusted
Podcast thumbnails do not load when users visit your Lion Server website, and when they try to play the podcast only a blank window appears in their browser.
In Lion Server v10.7.2 and later, podcasts are hosted using https, so a secure connection is required to view them. If users have not established trust of your server's SSL certificate they cannot view podcasts on your server.
The best resolution is to purchase and install a certificate on your server that has been signed by a well-recognized Certificate Authority (CA). This way, users will trust your certificate automatically. For more information, see Obtaining a CA-signed certificate in the Lion Server Advanced Administration guide.
If you are using a self-signed certificate in Lion Server, enable SSL on your main website to allow users to establish trust when they connect to your server.
- Open Server app.
- Select your server name under the HARDWARE heading in the sidebar.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Click the Edit... button on the SSL Certificate line.
- In the sheet that appears, locate the Web service row and click the pop-up menu in the Certificate column. Select the self-signed certificate that matches the host name of the server.
- Click OK.
After you make these changes, users will see a warning about an untrusted certificate when they connect to your server. Users will need to view the certificate and choose to trust it in order to connect to the server. After this, they will be able to view Podcast episodes on the server.
