If songs are missing or grayed out in your music library in the Music app

Learn what to do if your music is missing or grayed out in the Apple Music app.

Apple Music isn't a backup service. Make sure to back up your music library before you make any changes.

If you use Sync Library and your music is missing

Make sure that all of your devices have Sync Library turned on and signed in with the same Apple Account that you use with Apple Music. If your music library is stored on your computer, check the cloud status of songs to find missing music and resolve issues.

  1. Sign in to the Apple Account that you use with your Apple Music subscription on all of your devices.*

  2. Make sure that Sync Library is turned on for all of your devices.

  3. Make sure all of your devices are connected to the internet.

  4. If your music is still missing, check the Cloud Status on the computer where your local music library originates.

  5. Update your Cloud Library on your local computer first, then the synced computer.

    • In the Apple Music app on Mac: Choose File, then Library, then Update Cloud Library.

    • In the Apple Music app for Windows: At the top of the sidebar, click Sidebar Actions, then click Library, then Update Cloud Library.

  6. If your music is still missing, turn Sync Library off and on again on all of your devices. Turning Sync Library off will remove all of your downloaded music. Make sure you're on a good network connection. Larger music libraries might take more time.
