Archived - Mac OS X Server v10.6: Unable to open ePub files in iBooks from a Mac OS X Server Wiki

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

Symptoms

When attempting to open an ePub document on a Mac OS X Server v10.6 wiki page in iBooks, your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch may display this message:

"Your mobile device may not be able to download this type of file. Please try downloading this attachment from a computer."

Resolution

Verify iBooks installation

If iBooks is not installed on your iOS device, you can download it from the App Store.

Add "epub" to the list of supported file extensions for Mobile Safari users

  1. On the server, stop the Wiki service.
  2. Edit the following file as the root user:

    /usr/share/collaboration/javascript/mobile/compressed_lib.js
  3. Near the end of the file is a list of supported file extensions. Add "epub" to the end of the list of file extensions, so that the line looks like:

    var supportedExtensions=['bmp','doc','docx','gif','jpeg','jpg','mov','mpeg','mpg','mp3','mp4','m4a','m4v','3gp','pdf','png','ppt','pptx','rtf','tif','tiff','txt','vcf','xls','xlsx','epub'];

  4. Save the change.
  5. Start the Wiki service again.
