Aperture 3: EXIF Metadata sometimes shows the wrong lens type with 3rd-party lenses

Symptoms

Images you shoot with a 3rd-party lens sometimes show incorrect lens information in the EXIF Lens metadata field.
 

Resolution

Aperture identifies the lens using a Lens ID number written to the image when it is shot. Some 3rd-party lens manufacturers reuse Lens ID numbers from original camera manufacturer lenses. The 3rd party lens may have entirely different characteristics than the original lens using the same ID. In such cases, Aperture may display Lens data that does not match the lens actually used.
