iPad: Unable to complete backup in iTunes


In certain situations, the backup process in iTunes may stop or display an alert while backing up an iPad.


If iTunes cannot complete the backup process, you may see the following in iTunes:

  • An alert saying that the backup session could not be started
  • An alert saying that iTunes lost connection with the device
  • The "Backing up" progress bar, but the bar does not move

You can resolve this issue by disconnecting iPad from iTunes and then restarting iPad. If you are unable to restart iPad, follow the steps in this article.
