Archived - iMovie '11: Some camcorder video clips may not be visible in the Camera Import window

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

Symptoms

Some camcorders can capture video footage in multiple formats. If your camcorder has captured video footage in more than one format (including MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or AVCHD), iMovie may only display one of the formats when accessing the footage from the Camera Import window.

Resolution

Update to iMovie 9.0.1 or later if you haven't already. You can verify which version is installed by choosing About iMovie from the iMovie menu.

With iMovie 9.0.1 or later, you can import either the captured MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or the AVCHD video clips into iMovie ’11 by choosing the format type from the "Camera" pop-up menu.

  1. In iMovie, choose File > Import from Camera...
  2. In the window that opens, choose the video footage format that you want to import from the "Camera" pop-up menu
