iTunes 10 for Mac

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

Symptoms

iTunes 10 for Mac may be unable to open or may quit unexpectedly.

Resolution

This issue may occur if you have more than one copy of a QuickTime component found in different folder locations such as in:

    System-wide locations:

  • /Library/Components/
  • /Library/QuickTime
  • User-specific locations:

  • ~/Library/Components
  • ~/Library/QuickTime

Note: The "~" represents your Home folder.

To resolve this issue, delete the extra copy of the component file in the user-specific folder and not from the system-wide folder.

Some examples of QuickTime component files found to cause iTunes for Mac to quit unexpectedly are:

  • /Library/QuickTime/DesktopVideoOut.component
  • ~/Library/QuickTime/DesktopVideoOut.component
  • or

  • /Library/QuickTime/Sonix SN9C201 WebCam.component
  • ~/Library/QuickTime/Sonix SN9C201 WebCam.component

Delete the duplicated component file from the user-specific QuickTime folder (~/Library/QuickTime/...)

This document will be updated as more information becomes available.
