Archived - Importing both RAW images and MP4 video files from some Sony cameras

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

Symptoms

When you connect some Sony cameras to your computer via USB, RAW images and MP4 videos you've shot do not show up via Image Capture, iPhoto, or Aperture. However, JPEG images do show up as expected. As of this posting, the Sony cameras that are affected include:

  • NEX-3
  • NEX-5
  • DSLR-A560
  • DSLR-A580
  • SLT-A33
  • SLT-A55

Resolution

This issue occurs only if the camera's USB connection mode is set to PTP. To see all your images, including RAW photos and MP4 videos, you need to change the USB connection mode setting to Mass Storage. Refer to your camera's documentation to learn how to change the USB connection mode. Another solution is to use a card reader, rather than connecting the camera to your computer.

This document will be updated as more information becomes available.
