iMovie for iOS: Why do I receive a message indicating that iMovie can't access my videos and photos?

Symptoms

You may receive the following message when you work with your iMovie project:

iMovie cannot access your photos or videos
To enable access, open the Settings app, tap 'Location Services' and set the iMovie switch to 'On'.

Resolution

Follow these steps to access your photos and videos: 

  1. Tap Settings on your iOS device.
  2. Tap Location Services. (You may have to tap General and then tap Location Services, depending on your version of iOS).
  3. Set the iMovie switch to On.
